EQUALITY ACT 2010 and access rights for REGESA registered Emotional Support Dogs

The Equality Act 2010 in England, Scotland and Wales makes it illegal to discriminate against people with disabilities, and this includes those who rely on assistance dogs to help them with their daily activities. Under the act, REGESA registered support and other Regesa registered assistance dog owners have the right to enter services, premises, and vehicles with their dog, and it is a breach of the act to refuse a Regesa registered dog access.

The act also makes it clear that it is illegal to treat a disabled person less favourably than someone who is not disabled because of something related to their disability. This includes direct discrimination, where someone is treated unfairly because of their disability, and indirect discrimination, where a rule or policy is applied in the same way to everyone but has a disproportionately negative impact on people with disabilities.

Furthermore, the act also covers discrimination arising from disability, which occurs when someone is treated unfavourably because of something connected with their disability, such as a behaviour or symptom.

In summary, the Equality Act provides protection for people with disabilities who rely on REGESA registered assistance dogs, and it is illegal to discriminate against them by refusing access to services, premises or vehicles.
